Choir
The Choir program brings together singers across several ensembles — from entry-level groups to advanced choirs like Bel Canto and Volare. Students grow as vocalists and performers throughout the year and represent Los Altos High School at festivals and competitions across the region.

The ensembles
Singers can grow through several choirs, from an open entry-level group up to advanced, audition-based ensembles:
- Chorale (grades 9–12) — open to all students; the entry-level choir, building healthy vocal technique and music literacy.
- Concert Choir (grades 9–12) — by audition and director recommendation; an intermediate choir for singers with some prior choral experience.
- Bel Canto (grades 10–12) — an advanced treble (upper-voice) chamber choir; by audition and director recommendation, with advanced music reading.
- Volare (grades 10–12) — an advanced mixed chamber choir; by audition and director recommendation, with advanced reading and experienced technique, and sometimes performance tours.
A year of singing
Our choirs perform and compete throughout the school year, with a calendar that typically includes:
- Community performances, including the district choral showcase that connects our singers with younger students
- Festivals and competitions — invitationals, regional choral festivals, and honor-choir selections such as the ACDA Honor Choir
- Spring Sing, a student-led concert that’s a favorite tradition
- Seasonal traditions like Valentine serenades that bring music across campus
Auditions for the next year’s ensembles take place in the spring.
What the Boosters provide
Booster support helps cover festival and competition entries, travel, accompanists and clinicians, music and supplies, and the performance experiences that make our choirs shine. Choir maintains its own program fund, directed by its teacher toward the needs of the students.
Get involved
- Join the Choir Google Group for concert dates, volunteer opportunities, and news.
- Volunteer to help with performances, festival travel, and events.
- Come to the monthly Boosters meeting on Zoom to hear from the director and lend a hand. The link is shared in the Google Group.
